Review on ๐Ÿงฃ Ultimate Protection and Comfort: Minus33 Merino Wool Midweight Balaclava by Ameer Kobblewood

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Light protection for moderate cold.

Minus33 makes great things out of merino wool. Their thin, weighted shirts are my favorite cycling shirts even in the summer. Yes, wool can then be worn. Definitely breathes as well or even better than today's breathable jerseys. I even like it better. I wear the same lightweight long sleeve shirts for my winter commute (in layers) and stay nice and warm down to 20F. I ordered the balaclava knowing it would be the same soft wool material as their other products but in a lighter fit. . It hasn't disappointed me yet as it expands enough to close and open your nose and mouth as needed. My large head fits comfortably under a bike helmet. Keep in mind that it doesn't completely block the wind. So if you are looking for something with windproof properties I suggest looking at other brands like the Pearl Izumi PRO line. It lets enough cold through the material to wick away some sweat while riding, even into your 50s. I'm prone to painful coldness in my ears and he does a great job with it. As for stretching, I haven't had that problem yet. My solution will be to take it in the shower when I get home from work and hand wash it like I do my other wool pieces. Then squeeze out the water and hang to dry. It's machine washable but I guess why not use the shower. In any case, highly recommended. Just be aware that it lets some wind through, so in very cold temperatures you're better off with an extra layer or a wind-blocking balaclava.
