Review on πŸ“Ά D-Link DI-524 Wireless High-Speed Router (802.11g) - 54 Mbps by Gerald Barrett

Terrible Router - Router

I moved my previous combination, D-Link DI-604 and Apple Airport Base Station, to my work place so I needed a new router at home. The previous combination worked great, so I figured it wouldn't be a problem to switch to a different D-Link router. The DI-524 proved unusable for two reasons. First, and more importantly, the router randomly blocked websites, requiring DHCP reissues and resets. Two calls to D-Link tech support is utterly useless. I've tried resetting the router, changing the MTU settings, clearing the DNS cache, playing with the UPnP and DDNS settings, all to no avail. Calling my ISP was also useless, although apparently it wasn't a problem for them as plugging the computer directly into the ethernet connection fixed the problem. Second, the router only has a decent signal strength. I placed the device at the top of my house's home network box, and just being at the bottom (directly below) would cut the signal strength in half. Since it took me two months to figure everything out, Revain doesn't accept returns and I'm stuck with a semi-working router. I bought a Linksys WRT-54G router and although it's a lot bigger (and therefore a bit more difficult to plug into a network box) it works perfectly, no blocked sites, no need to fiddle with any settings and great signal strength ( full strength or just below where the signal was half on the DI-524). (.).

Pros
  • Worth the money
Cons
  • I vaguely remember
