Review on Gorilla Automotive 71611N Acorn Wheel Locks: Secure Your Wheels with 10mm x 1.25 Thread Size by Nick Morales

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent locking nuts. Compared to others I have used

Ok its been a while. Almost 2 years. So it's safe to say that this assessment should be very reproducible. I would give this 5 stars for the quality. I've used a few of these before they went on sale at my local Walmart and was very frustrated when the chrome on them chipped between the locking star key shortly after purchase causing rust and I've had others where the key on the outer edge eventually did snaps they pull off easily, making them difficult to put on. They don't use the same notch pattern, and the wheellocks themselves are made of stronger composite materials. All 4 look the same as the day I bought them in June 2012. 5 stars again for ease of use. Just as easy as with regular nuts. Finally, I went through a few reviews before writing this and remembered that others said they looked like other nuts, which is true if you think the other nuts are aftermarket versions. I mention this because my original 18" wheels have a bronze finish on the nuts. But the ones I paid for with my 22" rims have chrome appeal. I give them 5 stars overall and would recommend them to anyone who needs them. I really can't say they will never rust but so far my set has held up well in all elements except snow. (Note: It's best to use regular hand-held dish soap on any chrome, including these Acorn wheel locks.) Since they've been around for years, auto, rim, brake/lube cleaners haven't. These cleaners can attack the clear coat of any chrome. This is the only wheelset I've never used those chemicals or car washes on, but they still look great, including the gorilla locks. I know it's a pain in the ass to empty the car wash and get all the suds out as best as possible. I used to pour a gallon of water into a bucket with hand/dish soap, but in my experience with chemicals, this has worked best for me. I wash regularly, although usually once every 2-3 weeks. That way my rims never get a shitty load of brake dust. For all that said, I don't care about any of that as my nuts are covered with a plastic chrome hex cap. . But this review was not for me as a consumer but for those looking to purchase or replace a rusty chrome kit. For you, I hope you find this detailed overview useful. If the price is right, buy them in 2 years time and you won't be disappointed. Finally, for those of you who put the keys in the car and just leave them there, which isn't very smart. If the thief doesn't already have a universal set of keys, it's easy to open the window with a spark plug and get the center console or glove box key. I don't put the key in the car until I balance and turn the tires. It's really the only way to be sure and I can always call someone I trust to get a key if I'm stuck with a flat tyre.
