It doesn't rain much where I live but I'm sure they absorb water well. We have a lot of dirty soles and using this mat to clean shoes and even take shoes off goes a long way in keeping floors clean. Carpets are easy to clean. Since most of the soil we add is dry, I take it outside and give it a good shake, put it back in place and vacuum it. Every few months when it's hot outside, I scrub them with soapy water, then hose them down and let them air dry. A good product. Durable and useful.
