Review on Snakebyte Gamepad S: Wired PS4 Controller with 3M Cable, Bubblegum Camo - PlayStation 4 - Review & Buying Guide by Anthony Hales

Really great 3rd party controller This price point is backed by excellent customer service

I am very happy with this controller. I feel that it's getting harder and harder to find good accessories for third-party game consoles these days compared to the PS2/Gamecube/Xbox generation. Snakebyte isn't as famous as Hori or Link, but they do good stuff. I have one of their PS3 controllers and really prefer it over the Dual Shock 3, it had better triggers and longer grips for my larger hands. The Gamepad S isn't quite as good as this controller, but it's definitely a good choice for a tablet that won't break the bank and still delivers most of what a true Dual Shock 4 tablet is very strong, it has responsive buttons and counterparts, an accurate if somewhat stiff D-Pad, and a pretty decent touchpad. The device itself is about a quarter inch smaller than the official DS4 and works well for those with smaller hands, but I still found it very comfortable to use. That said, it also means the touchpad is slightly smaller than the DS4 and isn't as smooth or as accurate. The triggers are also slightly smaller but shaped similarly to the DS4. The pad is textured plastic, no rubberized texture or anything, but the plastic is good quality so it doesn't feel cheap. I also like the layout of the options and share buttons. Unlike the DS4, they are not flush with the tablet's surface, but are located below the touchpad. I don't know, maybe it's just me, but on the Dual Shock 4, I always press the touchpad when I try to press the option key. ten feet so you're not sitting a foot away from the screen like I was in the '90s. It also lacks a speaker and motion sensors. This will affect the playability of some games, I played Until Dawn with this controller which uses the motion sensor quite a lot so I missed something. However, at this price point, I doubt it can be considered a deal breaker. You also cannot turn on the controller from this panel. You need to turn on the PS4 and then press the home button for the console to recognize it. With a pillow of this price, that's not a problem. Unfortunately the pad broke after a few months of use. The left analog stick started registering inputs no matter what I did. I was disappointed but decided to contact Snakebyte to see if they would fix the padding or send me a replacement. Within a week they FedEx me a new controller from across the country. They didn't ask me to send another controller back, they just sent me a new replacement. I was very impressed with how quickly they responded to my issue and that they were so generous in sending a replacement so quickly. Their warranty is also FIVE YEARS, which definitely puts it ahead of many third-party manufacturers. Also, the pink camouflage looks amazing, the best color for a controller. Get one of these!
