I'm looking after a colony of Ferrel cats and got this for them, or at least one of them because that's all he'll keep. I have a couple of these for indoor cats but this is my first for outdoors and any concerns I had about putting it outdoors seem to have been allayed. The cable is very long compared to my home. I only have electricity in a few places outside and was concerned about how many extension cords I would have to plug in to get there. I still have to use the extension but not as bad as I feared. The cord is also coiled and appears to be weatherproof, but I have to admit we haven't had bad weather to test this out yet. The pad itself is plastic, perfect for ferrals that still splash and are messy, so it's easy to clean. It has a removable cover that can be washed. These feral cats are used to sleeping on hard floors, so I'm not worried they'd mind a hard-heated stove underneath. This is another difference from indoor cats, indoor cats need soft, outdoor cats like soft a little. There is a timer and many temperature settings. You must read the instructions as the temperature setting affects body heat to keep the animal from overheating. I can't explain it, read the brochure. So for outdoor use for my wildlife this is quite nice and definitely made for outdoor use.
