Review on Filtrete 50 Gallon Fast Replacement Filter by Melanie Lujan

I've been using the Filtrete for about eight years and had no complaints about the system until about six months ago. I've long hoped that Filtrete, like other water filter pitchers, would improve the design of their pitchers. Unfortunately I've never seen the new pitcher and I mean that literally. I found the pitcher at Walmart upon discovering the horrors of city water as a source of drinking water. The Filtrete jug was actually larger and was designed to remove the same chemicals, minerals etc as the more popular filter jugs. The price of the Filtrete system was another reason to try it. In general, it was a perfect pitcher, but as I understand it, nothing in my life is perfect. I really liked the physical design of the pitcher. It had a larger water capacity than most other jugs but was designed to easily fit in my fridge. It took up very little space. The downside was that I wanted a different pitcher. I couldn't find the pitcher anywhere. I've never had any trouble finding replacement filters, but over time I've noticed imperfections in the jug itself. Unfortunately, the handle isn't solid or closed at the top. I actually took the handle apart several times to clean it. Because it wasn't a solid piece, water was able to seep through the handle. This problem was compounded by the fact that the handle was not closed at the top. Condensation always formed on the handle of the jug, which eventually led to mold. Another problem I discovered early on was that unless I turned on the faucet very slowly, the tap water would seep into the jug along with the filtered water. . I'm giving the jug four stars because I thought it was a fantastic jug at an extremely reasonable price when it worked. My only problem is finding a "better" pitcher to replace the "filtrete"!
