I've had this phone for about 4 months and get an out of range signal from time to time - even when I'm 10 feet from the base sat away and didn't move. I would have to hang up and call this person back. I spoke to Uniden support and they said: 1) Turn off your phone. 2) Press Menu. 3) Swipe down to Phone Setup and press Menu again to select. 4) Press Menu. with an arrow next to "Select Base" 5) Arrow up to "Auto" and press "Menu" to set (assuming it was previously set to "Base #1") 6) Put the phone back on the hook for a while the base. He said that when it was set to "Base #1" it only connected to the base once. So if something was lost with the connection, it didn't try to reconnect. With the "Auto" setting, the phone always reconnects to the base automatically, so I should no longer get the "Out of range" message. I hope this solves this annoying problem. "Out of Range" messages - the only difference now is that if I press and hold the talk button, it eventually reconnects. I really cannot recommend this product. I heard Panasonic makes great phones.
