it isn't very powerful, i was accustomed to a larger plug in massager, so i guess it's to be expected. unless portability is really important to you, i'd go with a plug in for the power and convenience of not having to recharge (the battery gets used up in one session and it doesn't work when plugged in). this may be enough for most people but it's not powerful enough for deep large muscle massage, it's more like a vibrator.
