Spiral construction creates a strong anchorage
Straight tent poles are not suitable for all soils. This design works well in almost all circumstances except really soft ground (e.g. too much forest mulch at a depth greater than the dimensions of the stakes). I tried the shorter version but to no avail; I needed 16 inches for the forest mulch.
