Our water isn't bad, but it does have a taste, sometimes more so than others, and last year when we had cold weather we were left with scale in the bathrooms and in the bathroom for several days before boiling Water comes out warned brown-green so I wanted a filtration system that could remove this from the water if we had a similar problem again. I also wanted one for the camper when we're on wheels, especially if we're using side water that may have been in the tank for a while. And some of the camping water is terrible! So it's nice to have one of these on board when camping! When I saw this device that looks much more expensive, I decided to give it a try. This Chinese-made device comes with two filters that are said to be three-stage filters: 1) coconut shell activated carbon, 2) silver. ion, 3) medical grade hollow fiber membrane eliminates 99.9999% of tiny mineral particles and debris. Sounds good but I don't see any claims of eliminating bacteria, cysts or pathogens so I expect this to filter out fine particles but it might be advisable to boil bacteria, cysts and pathogens or use tablets to eliminate bacteria, cysts and Water to eliminate pathogens just to be sure if you are using pond water or other sources of unknown quality. With that in mind I looked at the leading known black filters for another device and they claim to remove 99.9999% of the tiny particles and they don't say what their filters are made of so it could just be the same. I can not say. Anyway, this device comes with 2 black filters and 3 white silicone plugs/plugs, two tanks, a black ring on the bottom to keep it in place and protect anything it sits on and the spigot. 3 holes in the upper chamber of this device. Up to 3 filters can be placed in the upper chamber to filter water faster. I chose to just use one filter (insert in the hole and tighten with the wing nut provided) and plug the 2 holes with silicone plugs. The listing says each filter is good for 3,000 gallons (6,000 for a set of two). Screw the nozzle onto the lower unit and you're good to go. The listing includes a statement that says "Stainless steel blocks with coconut charcoal filters that can be cleaned and reused for years." I'm not clear if this can be used to clean the stainless steel part or the coconut charcoal filters. I'm assuming it means stainless steel since it also says each filter is good for 3000 gallons (6000 for two), so I'm assuming after 3000 gallons the filters will run out and need replacing. At the time of writing this review, the BB9-2 black replacement filters are available from Revain for $69.99 for two filters. ) purple food coloring in water as you can see in the 2nd pic and then the top tank photo after I poured it in to see if it would filter. I also added some cinnamon to see if it would take that flavor out of the water. So I waited for gravity to move the water to the lower chamber and then poured a glass to see how it worked. As you can see in the fourth picture, all of the purple food coloring was indeed removed, and there was no cinnamon flavor in the water, or any particles floating in the water after filtering. That seemed like a good result to me and it was such a good test that I don't need a lab to actually test for purity! I am very satisfied with the performance of this device and the water runs through the filter quite quickly. It was slower the first time, but it's been faster since then - it took about an hour for the full 2.9 gallons, but of course you'll have to use water well before that whole 2.9 gallons goes all the way through the filter. I poured a few full pots (listed holds 2.9 gallons) and each was very good and didn't take long. Makes great coffee! After passing through the filter into the lower tank, water is obtained simply by gravity from the black nozzle on the side of the tank, which looks and works like the one in a large coffee pot. So i really like it. Purewell Gravity-Fed water filter and I plan to continue using it to fill my stainless steel glass with fresh delicious water and save money by not buying or paying for plastic bottles. Highly recommended.
