My recommendations for this unit depend on where you can put it. Here's what worked for me; I hope this is helpful to you whether or not your gear is in a separate closet like mine. After receiving and studying the device, I realized that the best place for it would be the back of my closet. This works well because I can put the closet away and all the power cords stay where I put them. It really helps with the cable and I think that's probably the best reason to choose this device over the standard configuration surge protectors. My closet had enough room for left side mounting (seen from behind) so a right hand power center configuration was ideal. If necessary, it can be installed in a different position. The power supply is equipped with an 8ft cord, so the cabinet can be moved quite a distance without having to unplug it. (Of course, this depends on how far the cabinet is from the outlet.) Niggling: The main on/off button has a very bright blue light that is distracting and even bounces off the wall. I did this with a special black tape. As others have reported, the coax connection is a little tricky. I found that the trick is to hold the cable just behind the connector with one hand and apply pressure with the other hand as you turn the nut. Looking at the pictures I was expecting the labels on the device itself to be user configurable. . It's not relevant. They get stuck at "VCR", "DVD", "CABLE/SAT", "RECEIVER", "CD", "TV/MONITOR", "ACCESSORIES 1" and "ACCESSORIES 2" for sockets and "CATV" "SAT" for coaxial ports. There is also "PHONE" Two additional positions are top and bottom, can accommodate small power adapters.
