Okay, it's my fault I didn't see "thermoplastic polyurethane" in the specs. It looked like metal. I was hoping to use it for a dog collar. This is a 5 month old puppy and he chews a lot. However, it still works great. The chain is not made of plastic. I decided to use it for my daughter's airbag in her backpack. Works perfectly. Looks safe. It's also worth noting that it doesn't open like a clam. Because it's a slightly rubbery, flexible plastic, you can push an air label in. It takes quite a bit of effort and I'm pretty sure it won't come out on its own.
