I only use it as a standalone hard drive cleaner - it's hooked up to an old HP receipt printer. It's been 6 months and I've erased over 300 drives with no problems. I usually use 7-pass (VSITR) on every drive we throw away. Use this process and just to be sure; I connected multiple drives to my computer after cleaning. I then launched several different file recovery programs such as R-Studio; I have never been able to find any trace of the file. Everything works great in the end - insert disc, choose cleaning method, come back after 4-24 hours and that's it (the bigger the disc, the longer the runtime).
