With the exception of the screws and the mirror itself, this device is made of moderately flexible plastic. The mirror in mine broke when I collided with another bike in the mud. Nothing was injured either on the bike or on me. Positioning of the mirror is done with a ball joint friction clamp (like your shoulder). If you're using it for an off-road bike, I recommend a "tear-off" type that folds easily and is a bit more durable. The best recommendation I can give for this product is that it is legal.
