Review on Mechanical Keyboard Gaming Keycaps Computer Computer Accessories & Peripherals by James Pfettscher

Revainrating 5 out of 5

It's beautiful.

I bought this keyboard in January 2021 for about $50. As someone who loves competitive FPS like Overwatch and Valorant I like to try out new keyboards from time to time and the layout on this one was unique and the color scheme reminded me of Luke Skywalker's X-wing jumpsuit so I bought this off one whim. For the price, this keyboard can't be beat. SWITCHES: It has red switches, while most keyboards in this price range have blue switches. In case you don't know what that means, blue switches make a "clicking" sound and are a little springy. They've fallen out of favor with most serious gamers and office workers alike, but are a common feature on most budget mechanical keyboards. Gamers often prefer red switches because they aren't as springy and can be pressed faster, while most office workers tend to prefer brown switches because they have some of the springiness of clicking switches but aren't as loud and aren't overly sensitive. stable SOUND: This keyboard has a nice sound, which I find to be more "thoc" than "click". I uploaded a video which has the audio correct for the most part. I really like this sound profile and have never heard anything like it on a budget keyboard. CONSTRUCTION: I'm an enthusiast, not an expert, but the deck has minimal flex and feels solid overall. It also has a fold down height adjuster which surprised me to find on a budget board. LAYOUT: More keyboard manufacturers should make keyboards that ditch the Pg and Pg-down keys in favor of a numeric keypad. That makes a lot of sense. As a gamer, a full-size keyboard isn't really an option as I need that space to swing my mouse around and click my heads. But sometimes I need a number pad, and having the best of both worlds is freaking awesome. KEYBOARD: I rightly believe these are PBT keys and feel a lot better than your regular keyboard - even some of the more expensive ones. . In case you don't know what PBT is, it's a different kind of plastic. Most keyboards use ABS plastic, which can become slippery over time and collect oil from your fingers. These caps have a bit of a tactile feel, and they have a bit of a "matter" feel, if that makes sense. I've never owned PBT keycaps and have never encountered any problems with ABS keycaps, but now that I've used PBT keycaps I have to say I'm a huge fan. I really have: 1. This is without a backlight. The number pad should have a white backlight, but I've never seen it light up.2. The cable is permanently plugged in, rather than the detachable USB-C found on most expensive keyboards. Again quibbles, but really nice to have.3. The legend is contradictory. Sometimes the letters are in the middle, sometimes slightly to the left of center. I'm a visual designer by trade, so over 15 years of experience my brain has learned to notice things like this. For this keyboard it doesn't bother me because the price was good and for me it adds a bit of charm along with the retro colors. SUMMARY: If you are a budget conscious gamer and love the orange color, just buy this keyboard.
