So DEF Gold is best for straighteners and mega hot makes curling faster. This iron also has a BIG spring/latch. There are problems - 1. this iron actually breaks after a few months or a few months - it stops heating. 2. Heat scale keeps warping during use (I taped mine over) 3. 500 IS is too hot, it will break your hair significantly and leave a burnt/dead smell - ugh!
