I like to have both thicknesses on hand so I can.
I am using a Scotch brand laminator with these Scotch laminating sheets. Works perfectly. I have used both 3 mil thickness and 5 mil thickness. While you might not think there's a huge difference between the two thicknesses, there is! A thickness of 5 mil gives a much stronger result. It feels much stiffer than 3 mil. I like to have both gauges on hand to choose between for any application. Due to the extra thickness of the 5mm laminating sheets, I put them through the laminator TWICE to get the best results. The instructions on the packaging recommend it!
