UPDATE: I've finally reformatted and used this flash drive again. With less than half the memory available, I've already found the missing files, or rather whole folders of files. Just last night I transferred about 10GB of data to it to free up space on several other flash drives. Between deleting and inserting, I noticed in less than five minutes that the remaining data had changed by nearly 10GB. During my investigation, I found that not only were several entire folders completely gone (luckily I have backups of them elsewhere), but a number of files I'd just transferred wouldn't open at all, as if they already did there would be . are corrupted even though they were not corrupted on the flash drive they were copied from. I use about a dozen other brands of flash drives and have never had a file loss problem from Silicon Power (knock on wood). Again, I can handle slow speeds, but strong file storage integrity is an absolute must. This product is simply not trustworthy. So we will avoid this brand in the future. At first glance it seems better made than the similar PNY version I've always used. But possibly this is an illusion created by the added weight of a fairly strong steel guard. The device itself has already given me some concerns as I have seen several files disappear from it. Any sample images and/or video files that came with it disappeared the first time I saved something to disk. Only the warranty registration file remains. Note that if you really want to see their sample files, do so before doing anything with this disc, as they may be coded to disappear the first time you use them. I also lost one of my files. I moved a file to a folder, the download hung before I could drag it into the folder, and then I realized the file was gone. I couldn't find it anywhere. I suspect it was some kind of delay because I had moved another file a few minutes earlier and since then I have tried not to move it too quickly without repeating the incident as far as I can tell (I don't always check the folder I move the file to to make sure he actually created it). Another oddity is that this drive has a maximum capacity of 115GB, while my 128GB PNYs have 125GB of usable space. So they seem to be wasting a lot of space due to the factory formatting which is FAT32 formatted so that came in handy. I assume those factory sample files are still there, just hidden - although 10GB is a lot of sample files - I wonder what was on it. The plug actually feels warmer than my PNY. What's particularly odd is how warm it gets when you remove the drive after a long period of inactivity. This, combined with write speeds that are even slower than my older USB 2.0 drives, makes me wonder if I should factory scan the device for spyware. Product name B30) on the device and packaging indicate that it is USB 3.1. So they appear to be making the current update to 3.1 rather than making a separate product. It still works with my USB 3.0 and 2.0 devices, but even my old PNY and Sony USB 2.0 flash drives are faster, at least when using USB 3.0 and 2.0 devices. If I had a USB 3.1 device I might see a speed improvement. But so far this thing has been slow moving files even on the drive itself compared to others. And the actual writing of files to the drive itself seems to jerkily write and then pause a little before continuing - flush and repeat, flush and repeat, depending on the size of the file being saved. I personally don't care about slower speeds, but there's no excuse for files disappearing. Reliability is a must. So I'm not inclined to play this company again.
