Solid and stable but no holes for stands

This is a really good umbrella stand. It is strong and stable, but without holes for stakes. I think the manufacturer/designer missed the opportunity to drill holes in the ends of the legs so they can be attached. It's a great stand, easy to use and quite heavy, but it won't withstand any wind - the umbrella just floats away - it only weighs 3 pounds so won't stand up to windy conditions. Since I will be using it to hold my sport umbrella at kids softball games I had to secure it. I used a 3/8 bit to drill holes in the tongue at the end of each leg and secure it with my heavy duty stakes - works great. I really like that it folds compactly and all parts stay connected. It has a socket that allows you to use racks of different diameters, which will be very useful. I also have a pre-lit artificial Christmas tree and will never use this stand compared to the crappy one it came with - much sturdier and easy to use.
