Although it may seem unlikely, a broken chain can happen to anyone and when you're in the middle of nowhere, you may actually be in a tough one be situation. A chain tool and one of these links is all you need to get back on the road quickly. I love how easy it is to work with them. As other reviewers may have mentioned, they wear out about twice as fast as the rest of the chain, so keep that in mind and replace them when necessary. I've also found that shifting slows down if you change gears while the link goes through the transmission range, which is very bad. I ride a Shimano XT on a mountain bike that's been converted to a commuter, so it puts in a lot of miles and a lot of shifts. Bottom line: a lifesaver on the road, but it's probably not something you'll want to install unless it's necessary.
