I recently had a very bad experience replacing a regular porcelain ceiling light on a chain in my pantry (you know, the ugly white kind that just has a bare bulb in it is screwed in). Yes, these things only cost about $5, but they're very difficult to replace since they don't have wires coming from the mount itself (and in my case, the wires in my junction box were very short). So. When a light fixture in one of my closets was having trouble turning on and off even when pulling the circuit, I decided to look for an alternative that would not only be easier to install but also more attractive. That's when I came across this little gem! Not only is it the perfect size (and super easy to install), it's a major styling update and comes in multiple finishes. All of the hardware in my house is oiled bronze, so I was pleasantly surprised to find it in this finish! If you're hesitant to spend extra money on this light fixture rather than just replacing your ugly bare bulb fixture, trust me. . it's totally worth it! In fact, I've just ordered three more to replace the lights in my other closets. And just for your information. The same device is available from several other places on the web, but the Revain's overall price is the best (at least as of the time of writing this review).
