Review on Peugeot U Select Senlis Pepper Mill by Jeremy Therrien

I purchased this salt grinder in addition to a pepper grinder from the same line which I am happy with. In fact, I went through two of these beauties. The former would not be able to step into the most beautiful mood effortlessly and would require the power of an incredible wanderer to get him into that mood. At the coarsest settings it produced a very fine powder, the $2 plastic salt grinder I bought at the grocery store put that $80 (retail) junk to shame. Something was obviously wrong so I sent it back. The second worked beautifully at first, although the bottom adjuster wasn't as smooth-running as the pepper mill. But since there was only a small handful of salt in the mill, I soon had to refill it. Once filled, the mill produced only very fine degrees of grinding and very poor performance, even when the switch was set. It takes 30 turns to get the power of 5 turns of a $2 supermarket coffee grinder. Thinking the salt I had on hand was bad, I went to Williams and Sonoma and bought a small $8 bag of sea salt. Just in case there was moisture in the mill from the first batch of salt I put in, I opened the mill and let it "dry" for three days. Much to my disappointment, the new salt did not improve the grinder's performance one bit. At that moment, I became so disgusted that I threw the trash in the trash because I was disgusted to look at it. If I had bought this item through a retailer I would have returned it but I bought it off ebay for a good $50 deal. If you could find out what kind of salt is put into the mill at the factory you might enjoy this article, but to me the grinder and/or design is too picky about the kind of salt you put in it. And yes, the adjusting nut on top loosens after a few turns. This thing would make a better paperweight than a working salt mill. Five stars for looks, one for performance.
