Media could not be loaded. I'm not good at starting fires with almost every type of spark I've used, and even with matches or a lighter it can take a few tries before I start a fire. For that reason I see them as a kind of insurance policy that ensures that I can start a fire, keep it going until my wigwam catches fire, and then start the fire if I ever find myself in an emergency. is that you don't have to lug around all the packaging or anything like that. A stick can start multiple fires if it breaks. Pieces can even be used and then removed from the fire before they burn out - pounded into the dirt and then reused on another fire. So one stick is probably enough for three to four days of hiking. Yes, it is true that there are ways to do such things. And yes, it's true that other things, like thin steel wool, are good at starting a fire. But I find magnesium sticks a great agony to scratch and work with. Just grab a match for these firesticks and they'll glow enough to light the tinder. And I find it amazing. I put 1/3 sticks in all my emergency fire starter kits (along with matches, lighter, lighter and various types of micro tinder) and this insurance policy guarantees I'll have a flame when I really need it.
