Seems to be normal what is there. I just don't have a plug near my desk so I had to plug it in from a plug a few feet away and I need surge protection since I plug my computer into it. I like that I can cover unused sockets, although this is for dust and not for childproofing. I measured and thought it would do, but it's a little shorter than I wanted. I think the length may include the actual rectangle the plugs are in, not just the cord, but I haven't measured to test that theory. The cable doesn't pull completely straight (at least not yet) because it was twisted so tightly in the box. I love the indicator lights that tell me it's working. I didn't have a power surge so I can't speak to its efficiency in that sense.
