It's made primarily from heavy-duty tarpaulin with a color-coated bottom that offers some moisture resistance when you lay it flat on the ground. The handles and shoulder strap are made of nylon or similar material and feel very durable. The strap is detachable but the metal clasp doesn't seem to catch the hook very well and is difficult to open. Can open but is very tight. There are three sewn-in pockets at the top of the main compartment. I think it's for things you want to have on hand. There is only one zippered pocket which is on the outside of the bag. It looks big enough for the average wallet or cellphone. While the main compartment can hold a medium-sized laptop or iPad-sized tablet, there's no padding to protect it. So if you want to wear something like that, I would put it in a protective cover first. This is a beautiful bag that comes in a variety of colors. It would be nice if there was a way to attach it to the top. It seems too open.
