I have both the matte and glossy reds that I used on my MX Ergo. Neither are like the original. Haven't really decided if the glossy is better or worse than the original ball. But I can tell you that the matte is pretty annoying to use.First, there is a lot of drag. So much so that it gets loud while scrolling. Although you do get better accuracy than with the original. I don't know if its worth it. Especially since the red glossy gives you the same (but better) performance than the matte.Second, the matte skips quite often. It skipped so much I thought the connection to between the mouse and dongle was getting interference. Turned out it was just the ball.Third, you have to do a lot of scrolling to get to where you need your cursor to be. Which is tiring, and annoying because of all the noise. I don't know if its the fit or the finish. The only thing that I can say that is good about the Matte ball is that the weight is pretty close to the original ball. Which isn't the case with the glossy ball. The glossy is a lot heavier than the original, and also, a lot glossier. The combo also produces drag. Not as bad as the matte, but in its own way, which seems to lead to problems of its own. There is a learning curve, having to basically relearn the muscle memory of controlling this glossy ball. It feels very different. The lighter original ball, moved almost effortlessly, like if it wasn't even there. This replacement, you definitely know is there. Not necessarily in a bad way, it's just different.By the way, I have the tracking on its highest setting for the glossy, to compensate for the weight. And I had the tracking set just a bit higher than the original ball for the matte, any higher and I would have lost the accuracy that I was looking for when ordered these balls.I'm going to keep the glossy one. I'm sure I'll get used to it in a day or two, but the matte is going right back. I'm reviewing both balls in case Ebay doesn't let me review the glossy separately since I bought them on the same page.tl;dr:one star for the matte. It's loud, draggy, and stuttersthree stars for the glossy. Its heavy and a bit draggy
