Review on Natural Balance Ultra Premium Canned Cat Food for Kittens to Adult Cats - Protein Options: Chicken & Liver, Chicken, Turkey, Ocean Fish, Salmon, or Tuna by Lisa Fernandez

My cat was in great shape before we gave her a new batch of Natural Balance canned cat food (chicken pate and liver formula). He has been eating this brand/flavor of cat food for years with no problems. However, a few hours after eating this food this time, he became lethargic, looked sickly, and was unwilling/unable to move. He also refused food. Not knowing what went wrong we took him to the vet who did a blood test that showed elevated kidney and liver levels. He had to be taken to the animal emergency room where he was given intravenous fluids for three days, among other treatments, which cost us about $5,000 in medical bills. A few weeks after he recovered, we fed him 1/4 dose of the same medicine again. Brand/flavor of cat food. Although there were no side effects as serious as the first time, we again observed loss of appetite and diarrhea. At this point we begin to suspect that the problem is with that particular food that he ate. A few more weeks went by and last night we fed him half a can of this Natural Balance Chicken and Liver Pate. In the morning we noticed that he vomited several times during the night and now he is lethargic again, looks in pain, refuses to eat and just lies in the corner. After three separate instances of the issue and the only common theme being that he had this brand/flavor of food, we are pretty sure there is something wrong with this particular batch of food that we bought. I have submitted a report to the FDA and look forward to their investigation. I have a lot of unopened jars and I am hoping that the FDA will contact me to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Again, this is my personal experience - I may have just received a bad batch, but if your cat is experiencing a similar problem - I urge you to stop using it immediately and report this to the food safety authorities (and of course manufacturers, retailers), Etc.).
