Too small, too big or just right. Goldilocks Syndrome

I got a 32 but felt very small, my waist is 30 and I was on the very last step with it so I returned it for a size up. I thought the 36 had enough notches as the 32 barely held up and I wear it but it did fit this one and was too big and I have returned the 34 is correct but it barely fits snugly the strap when I wear it golden, but not solo. I was a size 32 which barely fit without wearing so I don't know if I should try size 32 again and maybe the first time was an accident? Anyway, love the belt, just wish I was in that pickle
