Review on Col Ichabod Conk Brush Razor by Sally Bienz

Stylish coaster

I treated myself to a vintage shaving set as a birthday present. I chose this model based on the looks and the price. The image is both correct and deceptive. The base consists essentially of a beautifully painted, repurposed wall panel. There is a good recess for the shaving bowl. The indentation is probably about 4 inches around. A can of Taylor of Old Bond Street shaving cream fits perfectly but still leaves plenty of room to slide. It does NOT come with rubber feet. They would be a nice addition to protect the wooden base from puddles of water on the counter while also protecting the countertop itself. The razor stand is a solid, strong piece of metal. By weight I'm guessing it's chrome plated brass. elegant looking and tall - probably a good 7 inches tall. My razor and shaving brush hang about halfway down the stand. The holder fits my Escali badger hair brush and my Edwin Jagger DE86BL razor. Now for the "slightly misleading" part. The unusual angle from which the photo was taken gives the impression that the base is rectangular. It is not. This is a trapeze. Wide in front (12.7 cm wide) and tapered towards the back (3.5 cm wide). The base is approximately 7" deep and 1/2" high. It still looks very nice, I was just surprised when it came out and it wasn't square. Again, adding some aftermarket rubber feet to the base would be a worthy modification.

Pros
  • Ideal for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
