Review on ๐Ÿ’Ž GEMINI-20: The Ultimate Portable Precision Digital Milligram Scale (Silver) - 20g x 0.001g Accuracy by Laura Crawford

Revainrating 5 out of 5

This works to reduce the dose by 1 mg. if used correctly.

Specify. This scale is NOT accurate to within 1mg. But I've found that with the pills I'm taking, a 5mg tablet can actually weigh 100mg. OR about 1 mg equals a weight of 20 mg. And that scale seems very accurate for that. After purchasing this device and awaiting its arrival, I continued to research its accuracy and was initially frustrated that it probably wouldn't work. but he did! Here's what I tried. I am gradually phasing out long-term use of prednisone. I'm nearing the end of this dip and am trying to cut back to 1-2mg per day. I have tablets of 20, 10 and 5 mg. So I cut them out and measured how big the cut piece was: from 10 to 9, then from 8 to 7, etc. It was pretty inaccurate. This device does not indicate accuracy, but its resolution is 0.001 g or 1. mg. If you read reviews, <1 gram readings are everywhere. So I thought, that's not possible. But I found a way. First. You should know (I didn't know) that a 10mg tablet doesn't necessarily weigh 10mg. in fact, it can weigh up to 200 mg. This is because of all the fillers and coatings in the hard tablet. Is 10mg actually a weight dose of active ingredients? You don't need to know what % activity is, but it's useful to know so you don't go crazy trying to weigh a pill. Further. I already know what the approximate dosage should be by looking at the pills. I wouldn't recommend trying this if you can't do it. In other words, don't trust the weight entirely. Further. Calibrate device (instructions in manual) Next. You should be aware that weight measuring devices work best in the middle of their range. So turn on the device. let it warm up for about a minute. Add a standard 10g weight, it should read 10,000g, right in the middle of its range. Then add the whole tablet. Let's say you need a dose of 8 mg. Add one 5mg tablet. In my case it was 10,100g (the weight of the tablet was actually 100mg, or 20 times the advertised dose). I know I want another 3 mg. So I cut some of the 5mg tablets into quarters (but in reality they were all slightly different). Now I know that for an 8mg dose I need about 20 times that or 160mg or 10.160g on the meter. I add different quarters of pills until I get a reading close to that. The scale turns out to be very repeatable, and I can remove and reattach that quarter multiple times and get roughly the same reading each time. You can tare a 10 gram weight, but I like to see everything weighed. Again, don't do this unless you already have a rough idea of what your reduced dose should be. I have also read that the actual weight of the tablet dose can be 5-20% of the total actual tablet weight. So you have to find out for your own pills.
