Review on Mungyo Gallery Pastels Wood Standard by Jessica Lewis

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Solid oil pastels in a gift box. A gift to an artist friend, yourself or family.

Set of 72 oil pastels in a composite wood case with simple clasps on both sides. Housed in vacuum-formed black plastic trays, the pastels present them to you in an orderly manner. Beautiful shades and inspiration await you. The oil pastel has arrived safely. The wooden box was not damaged. I applied swatches to pre-printed color charts filled in by Yasmine Eldahan. Her various color swatch publications are available here on Revain. I did a quick 20 minute painting exercise using just the mungyo stamp. I used a black 9 x 12 inch Arteza multimedia notebook. The set of 72 oil pastels has a wide variety of colors, which is very suitable for a variety of art themes. still life? Portrait? Landscape? This set will help you with that. Upon testing, I found that all of these oil pastels are dense, with a small handful being slightly less dense. "Pain is incredibly soft, like lipstick. Cray-Pas Expressionists have a medium, workable hardness. This Mungio line is more complex than the Expressionist line. On a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the hardest and 1 being the softest: ● Sennelier [1] ● Karan D'Ache [1] ● Paul Rubens [1-2] ● Expressionist [3] (well maybe , 2.5)■Mungyo for artists [4, 9] With a 20 minute practice I was able to draw and fill in most of my painting. I tried using my fingertips to blend the background colors, but the result is crumbs that are twisted, similar to leftover pieces. These crumbs reminded me of how to remove pencil marks from paper with a good quality eraser. It remains to brush off these small twisted pieces. I had better luck blending the background using a large tortilla and a folded paper towel. There was almost no resistance as the colors didn't move too far. It was very easy to hide the pear and peach, but I was limited by the number of layers I could create as my idea was to only finish the painting with this set of painters. While I could achieve more layers and depth with an acrylic medium, I decided against it. I switched to a set of Mungyo Soft Oil Pastels 48 and was able to finish this example (for the most part) with no problem. For the pear highlight, I used Sennelier white oil pastels. Will I buy the Mungyo for Artists set again? This is doubtful. While they make a great first layer in a painting, they don't play well with many other oil pastels. Blending with paper towel or tortillion will make the area thicker, some parts will have more color than others, and some will be transparent. I also used OMS and a blending brush to get the best results depending on the look I wanted. ' again. This set of mungyo oil pastels is too harsh for my use and art style. I prefer to work with fat than with fat. There are none (bold) in the Artists line. I discovered that Van Gogh's oil pastel works better for the base layer. They are creamy when dry, but are best spread on and mixed with other high-quality oil pastels. So if the Artists score is at the top of the hardness scale, VG is at level 4 and the Sennelier line is at level 1.

Pros
  • Goods for drawing, painting and being creative
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
