When I read the reviews before buying, I couldn't understand why so many focused on the looks and not the functionality. Now that we have him, I can totally understand that reaction. It's really great! Even my husband was intrigued and thought it looked like the front of a 1950's car with a cool ornament on the hood! Aesthetics aside, it still works well and makes toast that actually toasts the way we want it, unlike the big brand I bought in January that never worked properly. It's simple, takes up a little less space than other toasters I've had, making it easy to hide under cabinets and leave more countertop space. I think some of the reviewers complained that the toasts didn't protrude far enough to be gripped with fingers. In any case, I never do this and recommend purchasing a purpose-built wooden (non-conductive!) toast tong that you can buy from Revain for cheap. I hope this toaster keeps working because we love looking at it! It doesn't fit anywhere in my kitchen but looks great on the counter. Also makes good toast! Neither burned crisp nor fried on both sides, both previous problems. For now I recommend this product. But I got a 3 year warranty for less than $5. If it dies, it will be repaired or replaced. No risk as I'm tired of buying toasters that don't work!
