Put simply, this is another great product from k&h pet. I would give 3-4 stars. I think the point of this house is to keep it outside for an outdoor cat or a stray cat, but it won't stand up to rain or a snowy winter. Water will surely get in and ruin it even though it claims to be waterproof. It would be ideal to store in a garage, shed or on a well covered porch. I don't have a heated house but I have another heated house of this brand and when our cat goes outside and stays there she always uses the bed. We will keep ours in the basement where the litter box and litter box are. Many of her other belongings are preserved. I spend a lot of time there because my office is there and I can hear them rolling around and playing around the house. Both share it quite often and fight over the main house. We keep toys in the "dining area" and they also like to ride around in their catnip filled toys. In a covered location, I highly recommend the heated option, as your cats will thank you in the winter
