Review on πŸ’§ Marineland PA0140 Micron Cartridge: Optimal Filtration for Magnum Canister Filters - 1-Pack by Dianne Williams

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Easy to use water purification cartridge

There are only two filters that can purify water: Vortex's Diatom and Marineland's Magnum 350. It is important to note that both filters do not provide bacterial filtration and should not be used. regularly or continuously. These filters work best when used as part of the maintenance of your aquarium. Or if you just want your aquarium water to look crystal clear. I've been using DE filters for 35 years - they haven't been changed since 1972. They're a little fiddly to install and disassemble - but the results are incredible. . Diatoms can filter out particles, pathogens and parasites down to one micron in size. It's the only filter on the planet that can actually filter them out. Magnum that can go from a standard mechanical canister filter to a water purifier with these Micro Marineland polishing canisters. However, they are limited to filtering down to 15 microns - 10 microns is visible to the naked eye. You get a "slightly" polished effect, but not crystal clear. Diatom filters use diatomaceous earth or DE as the medium. The Marinlands Magnum uses an ultra-fine mesh with a mesh size of 200 microns. Diatoms are fossilized microorganisms that lived millions of years ago. These tiny fossils are ground into an extremely fine powder. When the powder is applied to the Diatim filter bag, it coats it in such a thin layer that all solid particles with a size of one micron are removed. That's why DE filtered water looks so amazingly crystal clear and pristine. When you turn off the ventilation, it actually looks like your fish is floating in the air. The water is crystal clear. DE can remove algal blooms, cloudy water and cloudy water due to new reservoir syndrome - all within hours. These cartridges can't match the end results - but for those looking for something simpler the Magnum might tick the box, but then again the results won't be as impressive. You can refill cartridges with a 2 to 1 bleach solution, just make sure you rinse well afterwards and then soak in water that has been treated with a product like Prime. It's an easy-to-use alternative to Vortex Filters' more complex and cumbersome Diatom. However, the processing quality of the Diatom filter is superior to the weak Magnum 350. Each cartridge comes in its own box, well packaged and delivered quickly.
