Review on 🧵 Simplicity Coffee Mug Sewing Pattern Covers: Customizable & Universal Fit for All Sizes by Michelle Langley

Conceptually this is a fun and very useful pattern. Coffee mugs come in all shapes and sizes, however, and the pattern cover doesn't state the obvious - which coffee mug size works best for this pattern? The images on the front of the cover give you a general idea of what type of mug to use, but they absolutely had to give the recommended mug circumference and height, which they didn't. So here it is: At the widest point where the Velcro is sewn, the pattern measures exactly 10.25 and the depth or height is 10 inches. Now that sounds like a pretty generous circle; However, the mugs I bought as gifts measured 12.25 at their widest point. This meant I would have about a 2 inch gap in fabric under the handle. In most cases this can be acceptable. However, I didn't want to have so many cups open and put as many tools as possible in the small separate pockets. Now two things to note in my review: 1. I ordered the sample online and when I went to get the mug it was gone. Perhaps this is not the case for most of you. Also, now you have measurements because I provide them to you :-)2. The purpose of this handy portable tool chest isn't to store all the tools you have in it! It's an amazingly useful item to take to class or keep your most-used tools and scissors near your sewing machine or cutting table/bench while you're working on a project. For example, I have two sewing/embroidery machines on two tables that are residents of those tables. The tables are large enough to hold my overlock on one and the coverstitch on the other. So I have a container for each area of the project - two in total. I ended up increasing the width or girth of this template by folding the original template and tracing paper in half vertically and precisely relocating the center of the original parts of the template. 1 inch from the fold line. This gave me an extra 2 inches in circumference, resulting in two additional small pockets on each of the inner and outer pockets - a total of four more small tool pockets. I didn't have to change the depth or height of the cups I bought. In conclusion, I highly recommend this template for its usefulness. This tool chest comfortably holds a surprising number of tools. But I gave it three stars because Simplicity couldn't provide a coffee mug big enough to fit in a full tool box, and we have too many different sizes and shapes of coffee mugs to choose from. Considering the cost of the pattern and the simplicity of the included instructions (yes, there are instructions), I think they should have provided that information.
