When I got a pair of scissors with a similar design at work I knew immediately I needed something similar at home. They were much cheaper and worked exactly the same. One minor thing that bothered me was that the grips were very slick with no texture for a good grip. I used duct tape to fix it. If duct tape ever becomes a problem, my other thought was to just grab some sandpaper and sand it down a bit. That's really all he needs, so I wouldn't say it's a deal breaker. Very good scissors for the "in between" job that doesn't actually need tin snips, but will have too many of them for standard scissors.
