When I first got my safety razor, I heard a lot about how different blades can provide completely different shaving experiences. Several friends recommended I buy one of the "variety" sets that you can find here on Amazon. 5 is the best). I went through this grading scheme in two rounds: In the first round, I simply rated each wood from 1 to 5. After going through all 30 brands, I then selected the top 10 and had a "finalist" round, repeating the same process but now at higher rates. After all was said and done (and it took over 6 months) ASCO razors caught on and pushed other brands out of the water. They are definitely sharper than a standard razor, but I personally found the shave to be the smoothest. I just had to make sure I was careful with those more sensitive neck areas.
