Review on ๐ŸŽฎ ipega-PG-9083S Wireless Mobile Controller: Game Joystick for Android Smartphone Tablet PC by Timothy Hughes

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Finally a controller big enough for tablets!

The IPEGA PG-9083S controller is a great all-round controller. As well as being a controller for use with mobile gaming phones, it also extends far enough to accommodate tablet computers like the Microsoft Surface Go (pictured above). Of course, that means even large-format phones like the Pixel XL (pictured above) won't pose a problem. More importantly, the controller not only connects to mobile devices via Bluetooth, but also to full-fledged Windows PCs. This means you can use the controller without a connected device for spontaneous gaming on a desktop or tablet on a table with a stand. Its ability to be interoperable with Windows also opens up gaming options for native gaming and cloud gaming. It's the perfect companion for game streaming via Parsec, Steam Cloud Streaming, GeForce Now, Shadow or the upcoming Google Stadia service. This controller not only allowed me to play my favorite games and emulators locally on my Surface Go, but also mobile games on my Pixel 3, but I even wanted to play Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, which streamed via GeForce Now over the crappy Burger King Wi became -Fi after dinner. I have few complaints. First, that the instruction is not entirely clear. The device has some features that are not documented at all. Also, this review is specifically for IPEGA PG-9083S, there is an earlier version called IPEGA PG-9083 which has slightly different features. I suggest ignoring the instructions and setting the device to 4th position (this puts the controller into DirectInput mode) for use on Android and Windows, as this will work with pretty much anything I've thrown at it . My other complaint is the overall build/performance of the controller. qualitative. While I think it works pretty well, it's not as responsive or reliable as, say, the first batch Xbox controller. Sometimes a key press is missing because I didn't press hard enough. If you've ever been the type to get stuck at a friend's house while playing on a cheaper third-party two-player controller, this will leave you with a similar feeling. It's not bad, it's just not perfect. For the cost and the flexibility this device offers, I was willing to make that compromise.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Some little things
