not so sure anymore.

UPDATE: I've had this item for 5 months now and it's definitely having issues. I can't use it at the moment and in the past, when cooking for a long time, the liquid collected on the outer comb right next to the pan support and ran out a little on the side. I always cleaned the whole block after every meal I cooked. Then the last time I cooked meat that needed liquid, it cooked away inside when covered and the liquid and possibly tiny bits of meat got into the heating element underneath and caused a burning smell. I parked the car as soon as I realized this, but the damage was already done. I then cleaned the unit as best I could, even trying to get dirt particles out with a clean rag and finger, and I had burned particles under the heating element, but this area cannot fall apart. I think it still has debris in it because I tried to use it twice after that incident and it ended up smelling like something was burning. So, I'm almost done with this unit. I will have to buy another slow cooker/rice cooker but will look for something else that is easier to clean. I love this slow cooker/rice cooker. It's easy to cook, just follow the instructions for the different settings. If you want to cook different dishes, just find some easy slow cooker recipes and adapt them to your needs. I haven't been disappointed with the rice so far (although I could have used a little more water, the rice was a bit firm), which is easily remedied by adding 1/2 cup and letting it cook longer; and/or other foods like baby ribs, macaroni and cheese, white rice, chicken, etc. I cooked 4 cups of rice and fed 4 people and there was rice left over so it definitely cooks enough, but I still wished it would be a bit bigger to cook more for family gatherings lol. It fits in my kitchen, it doesn't take up much space. The silver part around the stove gets warm, not very hot BUT be careful with children, don't leave it on the edge where they can reach it as it puts out enough steam even with the STS (SautΓ© to Boil) and the top latch has won It requires no special effort to open at all. At that moment, steam comes out and boiling hot water drips from inside.
