You just can't get the hard rubber to comfortably conform to the contours of your face without pressing the device against your face. Totally impractical. Now for the good. and there are many. Unlike a rigid eyecup, the entire body of the binoculars is not only lightweight, but also covered in a soft-touch rubberized coating. In addition, there are 6 buttons on the top of the housing that can be used to control several clever functions of the binoculars. They take a little getting used to, but give them enough time in the field and they'll soon become second nature to you! As far as serving their purpose, they perform admirably and are definitely worth every penny spent, even with a problem eye. Sign.
