Everything about it seems to be true. From packaging to tool assembly and finishing. Most Japanese products don't seem to have the American ethos of "yes, that'll do," if it's not perfect, it just doesn't come from the factory. From the creases in the paper of the user manual, warranty card and certificate, as well as small details like the clip that holds the battery, it is clear that great care and precision was taken at every step of the manufacturing process. Important observations worth mentioning. The serial number on the test report matches the serial number on the tool. Mine came with an SR44 battery, an expensive battery that almost no fakes use. There was no battery in the compartment and it needed to be installed. Fakes usually come with a battery already installed (except sr44). The caliper movement feels very clean and smooth. The case is of high quality, without foam rubber inside. PP 2 stamped on the inside and "Made in Japan" written on the bottom. I do think there is a slight kink in the tail though (as seen in one of the pics), there is noticeable drag at around 3 inches although it is very very minimal which you will never notice if you don't look closely. But mostly it disappeared after swiping. I've run it quickly from 0 to 8 inches dozens of times and it's always returned to 0.00mm. Luckily, the dimensions are the same from the tip of the jaw to most of it. I'm very picky too, it blows the other two calipers I have out of the water. I highly recommend this caliper, especially for the Amazon price. Bought it for 160 after tax and seen over 200 in local stores. If it's not legal, it's an incredible fake and I'd still say it's worth the money. But I very much doubt that it is a fake, especially after successfully registering it on the Mitutoyo website. I have a feeling that with proper care it will last a lifetime.
