I have 2 kayaks that I wanted to mount on the garage wall and bought these brackets while building the house and finally got around to mounting them over the weekend. Anchors don't cost anything - grab them and use a spike finder. The screws were also too soft metal, and I removed the very first one with a drill. Spinning them by hand is extremely difficult, at least for me as I have weaknesses in my arms and hands due to previous health issues. I managed to install all 4 hooks and when I put my kayaks on it nothing moved. Success. I put together some screws from another project to replace a couple of screws I removed and was able to screw them into the foam with a drill easily - my advice is to use what they send you at the hardware store. and get better screws of the same length. This will save you a lot of frustration.
