Review on Targus 4Vu Privacy Filter Screen for 24-Inch Widescreen (16:10 Aspect Ratio) Monitor (ASF24WUSZ) by Tim Springer

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Screen filters are good but bad

I bought this filter to reduce glare from the patio door just behind my new iMac. The picture quality on the new device is fantastic, but the monitor really shines. I ordered a filter large enough to cover almost the entire screen, including black borders or borders. As a screen without glare - 5 stars. I don't use it as a privacy screen, but it seems to do well there as well. It is very thin and looks like the monitor came that way. That's the good part. The bad part is that whoever designed the mounting system never actually installed or used it. This is the absolute worst method imaginable. They use small plastic tabs covered in sticky glue that you have to attach to the sides, top and bottom of the screen so they overlap the filter. It's hard to explain but the tabs have no lever to hold the filter. As a result, they only touch the filter and your screen at the very edge. I tried twice the recommended amount but the filter still slipped off. Removing adhesive residue from the monitor after it was found unusable also proved to be a task. The solution was to go to a store near you and buy a bag of file folder rubber bands. These are large strips that are about 6 inches long and will stretch naturally. I used two on top and two on bottom. They are black and therefore not very noticeable. They work great. When I want to remove the filter to view high-resolution images, it just slides out of the bands. Reinstallation takes 10 seconds. I've seen other filters close to 1/8 inch thick with a waffle construction and this one is way better. I give the filter a 5 plus and the attachment system a minus 10. Surely design geniuses could come up with stripes.
