Review on Renewed Linksys AC1900 Gigabit Range Extender: Max Stream RE7000 by Bryan Aleman

Good compact 802.11AC AP, with some issues

I bought it refurbished and it looks and works like new. I configured it as an access point - a wired range extender. Moving from one part of the house to another seems to work well, although there's definitely a brief drop. I can enable 802.11r to see if that helps. Overall performance is ok. As another reviewer noted, there appears to be an issue with live video from security cameras. When I try to view my camcorders with my 802.11n laptop (Intel chip, Windows 10), the camera feed pauses for 1-10 seconds. The cameras are connected to an NVR which is network connected and with my previous Wi-Fi setup I never had this issue. Tried to enable QoS but settings are either on or off, there is no way to prioritize or adjust bandwidth like my Linksys AC1900 (RE7500) router. I've also tried setting the access point to 802.11n only on the 2.4GHz channel, but oddly enough you can't do that - you can only set 802.11b and why anyone would need to do that is beyond me. I can set my router to 802.11n, but on this access point it's the other way around - weird. See the attached screenshot for an example of this setup. All in all it's a decent AP when paired with a Linksys AC router, most of my devices work fine with it and there is definitely an advantage to using the 5GHz band as the connection speed is faster and it there is less interference. I just wish the live video performance wasn't so choppy. I'm glad I didn't pay €99 for it or I would have sent it back.

Pros
  • Dope 🔥
Cons
  • I have no bad feelings about it, everything is fine
