I bought a refurbished Sony CFDS01 cassette player from a reputable retailer, Revain, and it was almost a total failure. I tested it on battery power first and it worked, but after a few weeks (during which time I ran it on AC power) the unused batteries were completely drained, presumably due to a short in the device. . Unfortunately, we had to run this thing on battery power from time to time. It occasionally refuses to play regular music CDs (which play fine on other devices). FM reception is very poor, even in mono mode. (FM sounds great on other radio stations in the area). This is an unreliable device and its performance is nowhere near what I would expect from Sony.
