Almost correct - lighting and ceiling fans

These switches have an internal lip at the end where the chain exits the cylinder and holds the assembly in place. This edge prevents the chain from sliding smoothly unless it is sharpened. If this switch were vertical it would be fine, but most ceiling fans have it horizontal and it becomes standard in this position.
