First the explosion: I made an omelette with very well beaten eggs (use an immersion blender if you want waffle-like cloud-like omelettes). I closed the pan, and as the air in the eggs expanded, it flooded the volume of the pan and steamed out. Ok, time to open, right? Wrong, the pressure was enough to hold the clamp in place so I pulled it off. The pan, under the pressure of the steam, blew the egg an impressive distance through my kitchen and eventually broke off the bracket as well. To be honest, although it's not broken, I don't fasten the collar; This appears to be a bug, not a feature (if you want to take yours off, it seems pretty easy to understand). I looked in the manual for a warning about my problem and couldn't find any. Another complaint: the plates don't stack for two cooktops, and unless you pay close attention to the photos you're unlikely to draw that conclusion. Also, each surface has an edge that is about half an inch high. So if you're cooking something thinner, don't expect both surfaces to make good contact. And a small nuance: like many products in this price range, the panels are not removable for cleaning. This is not surprising, it just seems less thorough and difficult to clean. The advantages are that this pan has a unique size (slightly smaller than similar electric pizzerias) and heats up quickly and evenly. If I could find a similar product that corrected its shortcomings (even at a slightly higher price), I would trade it in in a heartbeat. To be honest I was expecting this to be a large version of the mini skillet which is well designed but too small for my omelettes and quesadillas and it's quite disappointing that it isn't. However, without a clamp (no more blasts) and armed with my trusty spatula to flip things upside down when needed, I will continue to use the product.
