I hesitate to call them light, they are definitely not as light as aluminum. I think they're great for the average kitchen. We've been using this set since Christmas and are both very happy with it. We use them at least twice a day and they hold up great. They heat up evenly, keep you warm, the grips are very comfortable. We never put them in the dishwasher, but I never wash pots and pans that way. So I can't tell you what to expect from a dishwasher. Before use, they should be washed well and wiped with a cloth. Like most stainless steel pots and pans, they show signs of manufacturing. We bought another set for a young couple who are alone and say they love them too. I say it's a good buy.
