Worked 1 time: Code Readers & Scan Tools

I scanned 1 vehicle and it showed 2 problems. My battery was almost empty so I did a battery test. As soon as I touched the battery scan mode, the screen went blank. nothing will erase it. spoke to a company representative, he told me to connect to another machine. I told him I only have one working machine and I'm not taking any chances. I told him I wanted a replacement. Bought a used device. Everything in scratches, not just the screen. If I wanted a used one, I would buy a used one. Just wondering why this one came back?
